Talking about delicious food always makes me hungry. :c

Met with Val and her son and his business partner tonight to go over our buffet menu!  I realized as I sat down at the table to wait for them that I had no idea what any of them looked like, so I sort of just winged it and looked up hopefully at anyone who walked in the door.  I probably looked a little pathetic.  *Sweatdrop*  Thankfully I apparently share some similar features with my dad and she recognized me on the spot, thus saving me from further humiliation.

They were all super nice and seemed to all know what they were doing, and we walked away with a pretty tasty sounding buffet spread:

  • Roast and butter chicken! (Yum yum~)
  • Mashed potatoes and basmati rice (to go with the butter chicken, obviously.)
  • Penne pasta with creme sauce (for any pasta lovers/vegetarians in the crowd.)
  • Perogies with sour creme and bacon bits (this may or may not be taken off since we already have a lot of starches.)
  • California mixed veggies and corn
  • Gravy for the roast
  • Two salads: Caesar and… something else?  Tossed salad?  (I can’t remember what we decided on.  Doesn’t matter to me since I shall be gobbling down the Caesar.)
  • Variety of buns (because no buffet is complete without buns!)

And then for dessert:

  • Wedding cupcakes obviously (they shall be fantastic!)
  • Fruit (with fondue possibly~)
  • Creme puffs (these guys make some pretty epic creme puffs, I’m excited for them.)
  • Cheesecake

Then later on in the night there’s going to be some extra munchies put out:

  • Cheese, crackers, pickles, veggies, etc
  • Chips and salsa (with both medium and hot salsa according to your preference.)

Gaaaaaah!  So much tasty food!  *Flail*  And me sitting here in my house afterward with nothing delicious to eat…  ;_;

It’s that special time again…

Fondly known as the 72 hour seat sale!  WestJet had some mondo discounts on today so we were finally able to book some flights for our honeymoon!  Still didn’t have enough AirMiles to cover both our tickets, so we ended up paying for one with miles and the other one in cash, but it was still a sweet deal.  All that’s left now is to find a convenient hotel to camp out at for one night that has a shuttle service to the port the next morning.

Tomorrow I meet with our caterer to plan our reception menu!  (I get excited about anything concerning food.)  Her son is apparently a chef at the Delta Hotel and will be helping out with the food planning and prep, and I can’t decide whether that’s an awesome turn of events or not since everyone who knows me at all knows that I like boring food.  Fancy shmancy garnishes and crazy flavors and tiny bits of unrecognizable mixings don’t jive with me…  I’m probably every professional chef’s greatest nightmare of a client.  Just give me a nice, no-frills meal.  (Some people call it bland, I call it tasty and simple.)  Yes, I know that it’s our guests I need to think about, but I want to make sure there’s still food there that I won’t be rudely picking through with my fork all night.  Gweeblies are The Enemy. :x

Anyway, will go and see what sort of ideas he has, will offer my own small set of safe, simple dishes suggestions, and will report back.  ¬_¬

It’s my wedding and I can eat what I wanna!

Sooo… I’m thinking…  Swiss Chalet sauce available on our buffet table, yes/yes?   *Nod nod*

They have those little grocery store packets!  I’m pretty sure Val could swing that.  Yes indeed, this is going to be the best wedding buffet EVER!  :D

Day 1

First things first, need to figure out:

  1. when this is happening
  2. where it’s going to be
  3. how many people are coming

and then proceed to book a venue ASAP!  Not surprisingly, all three aspects are directly correlated with one another and form an angry, twisted triangle of dastardly cause and affect.  D:

This afternoon I’m going to start off by phoning around various places for quotes on both the low and high ends of the prospective venue spectrum to give me at least some comparative price points.  Neither of us are particularly picky about the date as long as it’s a Saturday in late April/early May of 2011, so that will probably completely depend on who has what available.

Loving parental units already proved to be wonderful and helpful and through various contacts they know, we may already have a good caterer and potential photography lined up~

  • Catering — Val?  Charges flat price plus the cost of food, not per plate thankfully which helps if we have more guests than we originally intended.  Dad is going to get in touch with her.
  • Photography — if not Ian Grant, than maybe he can recommend a good student from his class?  Looking for some potential Photoshop and touch up work to be included, though hopefully without paying a small fortune…  D:  Anyone have any good recommendations?!
