there used to be a whole bunch of them in city centre mall, where they were doing renos on Lazia and so on. i also think there are a few signs like that in the airport (where there are never ending renovations, blah) and i know kingsway and southgate both had their share. the wording was different and but they were the same idea.

and well, everyone in their job is hated in some way. police men, lawyers, social workers, helpdesk attendants, telemarketers, bus drivers, waitresses, garbage men, etc. everyone's job is important but we're all looked down on by someone else. it sucks, but it's life.

I definitely never got that impression from this sign; however, perhaps I'm wrong now that you guys bring it up. I can't remember ever seeing a sign regarding renovations like this -- any of the ones I can recall are always warning to watch your step around various construction, or your general "coming soon" sort of thing. Maybe I just don't wander around downtown enough?

Either way, yes, I agree that it needs clarification. And I stand by the fact that both from remarks I hear and stories that Mason and his coworkers tell, that the trades in general are viewed by some as lower class grunt jobs, which I think is bullshit.

yeah, i'm with andy. i've seen lots of signs like that (especially in kingsway and the other various malls in our city that have been renovated as of late) and i always felt that they were apologies for the building's disarray. i do, however, agree that the word 'appearance' with the hardhat can be kind of confusing and in need of clarification.

Umm... I always assumed that was a lame pun referring to the BUILDING's appearance, during construction.
