Feels good to strike things off the to-do list.Yesterday we went to the Broadway production of the The Lion King, and it was awesome. I've always wanted to see it -- I went so far as to try to buy tickets for it while on my Europe tour after High School, but I was horribly cheated out of it when they didn't have a showing during the days we were in London (which is a shame, because the London production is apparently supposed to be four times as big and spectacular as the traveling show.) Since then I've had to wait and hope that it would tour again to or near Edmonton.
The music was of course amazing and I don't even know how to describe the brilliant puppetry and costumes used in the show. Piles of win! I am not going to lie, I nearly started crying during the "Circle of Life" opening when I turned around and saw the giant life-size elephants and giraffes parading down the isle next to me. Acting highlights included the two men who played Mufasa and Zazu. The guy playing Scar left a little to be desired for me, though so many years of being a devoted fangirl back when I was a kid has made me a bit of a biased snob towards any non-Jeremy Irons incarnations.
I'm not usually a sucker for the concert/theater ridiculously overpriced souvenir tables, but I caved and bought myself one of the wickedly cool Scar ornaments. I couldn't resist, it's always so hard to find souvenirs of the villain characters, much less such nice ones like this that don't look like they've been crafted by a five-year-old. *Hearts* He will hang on my Christmas tree next to good ol' Severus Snape. *Evil cackle*
Countdown until shiny exciting house possession: 24
Huh. I generally like musicals, but I have no desire to see the Lion King stage show. Now "Wicked", I would shell out for. And "Spamalot" was okay.
I'm a huge Disney animated movie nut, and Lion King has always been my favorite, so this was a bit of a special treat for me~
I wouldn't mind seeing something like Wicked -- I've heard the book is really good, though I have yet to read it.
