@Alfvaen: Do you know of any free programs off hand? Or at least, very cheap programs? I tried to cheat when I moved into the apartment by using IKEA's little simulator but you can specify dimensions of furniture precisely at all. :P

@Lance: It is very confusing. >_< Pretty much you get pre-approved before you buy the house; and then you get approved once you put the offer down on the house; and then once all your conditions are met (house inspection, financing -- if either of those had turned out bad, then the deal could have fallen through), then they confirm your mortgage. It's a lot of paperwork, documentation, and waiting around for people to email you.
