    *Snort*
Mood: 03 Tired. Was up at 5 a.m. this morning.

Sorry guys, but I'm really struggling to force myself to finish reading Outlander. It's only rated a Somewhat Entertaining on the Brenna Scale of Awesome -- there's only so many times in one book that the heroine can be almost killed and/or raped, have her big burly Scotsman husband save her at the last moment, and then go off and have piles of hot sex before it all becomes a little repetitive. At times it also feels like a bad Harlequin smut novel, with such cheese-filled gems as:

I pressed my hips back against him, inviting, and settled against
him with a sigh as his solid hardness filled me.
    and...
"I want to leave the feel of me deep inside ye with my seed."

I felt silly just typing out the quote out here. I had to put the book down for a while to gather up my brain from the floor.

In other news, OMG I finally fixed my internet! It's been sickeningly slow on my Mac here at home, but yet fine on Mason's PC. *Terrible cloud of irritated confusion* Apparently Apple is doing... something... with their DNS... something or other... (I don't actually understand all the techno-babble at all) but basically whatever it is made interwebbing really slow -- but everyone seemed to point to a specific OpenDNS thing to fix the problem, and it did! HUZZUH! Hello speedy 'nets, I missed you~

I've been spending a lot of time lately expanding my (previously complete lack-thereof) collection of Batman comics, most notably issues that predominately feature the Joker and/or Harley Quinn; and heavily helped by the conveniently compiled list created by the wonderful webmistress of Love Dat Joker. (I love when all the hard work is already done for me.) So far I've managed to find everything from the main Batman series, most of Detective Comics, as well as all the animated titles and several issues and mini-series' from here and there.

It's been fun finally getting to read some of those really popular and well-known stories that I've only heard about before, despite having to battle through all the horrible retro art that makes me cringe. (I'm a sucker for the sexy, modern penciling more along the lines of Jim Lee.) Stories like "A Death in the Family" have been a great read, but the visuals almost ruin it for me. T-T

This avatar screams out for an amusing caption of some kind, but I don't know what.

If you want some good batman I just read Knightfall, which was great but Batman centric. For artists, I really like Eduardo Risso, he's got a really cool modern style. Jim Lee is also great from what I've seen.

Knightfall? That rings a bell, I think I actually have a couple downloaded from that series. Do some of them have the Joker in them? That's probably why I have random bits of it if so.

Any other really good Batman arcs or stories you think I'd like (and aren't on the list I posted), let me know.

Joker and Scarecrow double team the mayor, but the real story is about Batman, Bane and Azrael.

I really liked Joker, but that's bound to be on your list. Brian Azzarelo writes, and he's super fuckin' sharp. Him and Risso do 100 Bullets, one of my favorites.

You're talking about the newer Joker one-shot that came out last October? I read that a couple months ago, and I actually didn't like it much. It seemed a very radical change to the canon Joker, and I think it demeaned his character -- they lowered him to nothing more than a regular, violent gangster. He was really boring.

The art was really pretty in general, but I didn't enjoy the look of J and how they modeled him after LedJoker. As much as I enjoy Heath Ledger's version of Mister J in TDK, I really hope the DC-verse doesn't start using his depiction of him in the comics on a regular basis. :P

His change in behaviour was explained in the book; he had just been released from Arkham (not escaped) because he was "cured". The climax of the book was the facade starting to slip and him falling back into his old ways. I guess if you're just looking for the Joker acting crazy the book may not be for you, but I thought it was a great character piece that added a lot of depth to an otherwise static character.

I'm staying at the fortress for the next few days with full intentions to raid vance's comics, I'll let you know if anything else of interest comes up!
