Way to be awesome, America~ *Thumbs up*
I have to give props to McCain though, I wouldn't want him as president but I respect him as a man. He's defended Obama when other opponents wouldn't have; and he was gracious in his concession speech and left the podium with his dignity in tact. I truly believe he holds a lot of genuine respect for Obama.
It was a very close race percent-wise; Barack managed to score those major electoral votes though. As long as he manages to evade any crazies with guns and not dive the States into a larger financial crisis than they're already in, I think he'll do some incredibly good things for the country.
*Dons a sparkly Obama hat and throws some celebratory confetti*
I'm a bit hesitant. Obama seems like such a bandwagon now. Without leaving this page, give me 10 reasons you would have voted for Obama. Can't think of 10, then give me 5. Can't think of 5, give me 3.
Don't get me wrong, I would have voted Obama too. However, I would be lying if I said I knew what he stands for, besides HOPE and CHANGE. This is also a historic election and the effect of the outcome will be felt for decades. I'm happy for America, but I really have no idea why.
1) He wants to pull out of the war in Iraq. HUZZUH!
2) His stand on abortion and a woman's right to choose.
3) Obama has very positive stands on LGBT rights and freedoms, from marriage and adoption to service in the military.
4) His vice-president isn't SARAH PALIN.
Those are just the major issues that I know off-hand about. There's a listing of where he stands on loads of other things on his website I think but I'm too lazy to go through them.
It was both close and not close, in the way only an American Presidential Election can be. I'll tell you about why it was both later.
